Hi friends! So, I have fun news. A few months ago, the boyfriend and I took a little trip to sunny California and… got engaged. Wooot! We flew into San Diego on a sunny, Saturday afternoon, then road tripped up to Palm Springs for food and lodging. We planned to rock climb at Joshua Tree National Park for a couple days before winding up ocean-side for the second half of our stay. We possibly should have camped/overnighted at the park in order to fully enjoy the gorgeous scenery, but neither of us felt up to packing and hauling that much gear. Ha. To the classy Royal Sun Inn we went instead (after enjoying dinner at a Mexican diner highly referred by Google+ users… thank you as always for your vast plethora of knowledge, Google).
Very shortly after we checked in, a smiling, and suddenly very shy boyfriend, walked me over to his luggage, got on both knees (cutest thing ever) and proposed.
A couple of days later we took our engagement photos among the hills and rocks of Joshua Tree. Somewhere between ultimate frisbee fields and rock climbing adventures we had fallen in love, and I couldn’t think of a better place to document the joyous occasion. We had a blast setting up the scene and making things just right. What I didn’t expect is how romantic the session would be. Maybe it was the high of betrothal (things felt unexpectedly surreal for a few days) or the beautiful, warm weather (a welcomed change from the ice-storming Midwest). Whatever the case, our DIY photo shoot was just… special.
In hindsight, a remote trigger would have been helpful. But then again, I think I liked it just the way it was.
Cheers, my love. I can’t wait to be married to you!
(Oh, and at the end please enjoy the dorky outtakes of me sprinting into place – this process did cause my hair to be a bit unruly…)
