Photographing family is an absolute honor. It is also, in all reality, incredibly humbling. It’s not every day the ones you love witness such a large piece of you – what makes up your daily moments, what inspires you, what you invest a huge piece of time and life. Whether it’s the right thing or the best thing, there’s some degree of acceptance which, as I realized while photographing this wedding, is important to me.
When Kelly asked me to document her day, I was ecstatic. We grew up spending weekly cousin get-togethers at Grandpa and Grandma’s farm. We’ve participated in dozens of Easter egg hunts (well into our 20’s), hundreds of laps around the ping pong table during competitions of ‘Round the World, and more than our fair share of sitting at the kids’ table (well into our 20’s… ha).
Kelly is beautiful, joyful, and above all, kind. She is the rare soul who always has nice things to say. I adore her for that. Seeing Kelly and Sean together just makes me happy. As noted by her sister, the maid-of-honor, and Sean’s best man noted during toasts – Sean gives the best hugs, and he loves making Kelly laugh (which is a beautiful thing to hear). They had a Western Kansas wedding that was loaded with friends and family who were super excited to celebrate with them – it was awesome! Being with everyone, seeing their smiles, laughs, and some really sweet dance moves reinforced the importance and value of family – their genuine support and selfless love is what makes this girl’s world go ’round.
Congratulations Kelly + Sean! It was incredible to document this very special day with you. Sean, I’m quite certain you’ll fit right in with all of us – welcome to the family!
