The outdoor thermometer read 109 degrees. Not accounting for humidity. And the wind blew like there was no tomorrow. But a little Kansas weather wouldn’t stop Fred and Jana. Oh no. They had waited a long time for this.
I met Jana over three years ago, on a trip to Kansas City. I lived in Denver and was being transferred in the spring. Jana had an extra room for rent. We both went to K-State. She was an accountant (as most my friends seem to be). And her house was so cute. I was ecstatic. I met Fred some months later, and liked him instantly. There was a steadiness about him. And a quirky sense of humor. Plus, he was wicked smart (forget about playing Banagrams with that guy) and liked to cook. The two of them together could play any sport, run faster, and jump higher, than most any couple I know. They just seemed to fit.
I jumped for joy when the engagement was announced.
Their wedding day was so darn happy. Jana had an ear to ear smile all day. She looked absolutely radiant. And Fred couldn’t help himself. He smiled non-stop too. There was a joyful peace about them throughout the day. Friends and family sensed it as well. The way a wedding day should be.
Jana and Fred, it was an honor to document your much anticipated day. It has been a pleasure spending the last three years with you. And I’m even more excited you will be spending the next sixty years with each other.
